3 Business Owner Resolutions

Happy New Year! 2020 was challenging for business owners and, as 2021 begins, it’s a time to reflect on those challenges and what we’ve learned from them. This is also the time when we create resolutions to be better and make positive changes in our lives. For the first blog for the year, we wanted to combine both of these and present 3 business owner resolutions.

Connect with Other Business Owners

One of the biggest lessons from 2020 is that we can’t do this alone. Being a small business owner is a life filled with great rewards and incredible challenges. Before the events of this year, many thought they could do everything by themselves. Maybe they were even successful. The truth is that you absolutely can’t do this alone. You need other people to help and lift each other up in times of crisis.

If you haven’t been connecting, genuinely connecting, with other business owners, this is the year to change that. Set up a virtual coffee, take a walk, or find some way to connect that is safe and comfortable for both of you. Be genuine and transparent when talking about both your successes and your stumbles. That will help you on the normal days, and it will be vital in the bad ones.

Give Back to the Community

Just as we discovered that we couldn’t do things alone as small business owners, we also learned that our communities need help as well. Giving back to your community helps to provide resources and services to people who need the help. Maybe you contribute funds to non-profit organizations or organize a company day helping at the local food bank. Or maybe you decide to help guide budding entrepreneurs in the community with your knowledge and experience. Whatever the case, now is the time to truly give back to our communities.

Be Kind

When times get tough kindness is often the first thing to go. We’re shorter with each other; letting our patience go and forgetting that anyone could be having a hard time. In 2021 this is the time to not only remember kindness but also practice it. Take the time to remember that times are difficult for a lot of people and your kind gestures or words may very well be the thing that makes all of the difference.
