Topgolf Entertainment Group, the sports and entertainment company that focuses on providing a high technology-driven golfing experience, is coming to North Charleston.

The first shovel will enter the ground for construction in the winter of 2022, and the venue is expected to open its doors for business later in the year. The multi-level, 72-bay complex will be the third Topgolf venue to open in the Palmetto State this year, joining venues in Greenville and Myrtle Beach- and the company hinted that it may not be the last.

“Charleston is an ideal community for Topgolf,” the company’s Chief Development Officer Chris Callaway said in a statement. “It has a vibrant culture with individuals seeking new and exciting experiences. We are eager to start creating memorable moments in North Charleston and look forward to future growth in the region.”

RealtyLink, the real estate development company that made the move happen, was similarly elated. “RealtyLink is thrilled to welcome Topgolf to our mixed-use development at Uptown at Centre Pointe,” declared Lenn Jewel, Principal at RealtyLink Charleston. “The development will be a unique, upscale combination of entertainment, office, hotels, apartments, retail, and restaurants in North Charleston.”

A high-tech golfing experience

Topgolf describes itself as “A technology-enabled global sports and entertainment community that connects people in meaningful ways through the experiences we create, the innovation we champion, and the good that we do. What started as a simple idea to enhance the game of golf has grown into a movement where people from all walks of life connect at the intersection of technology and sports entertainment.”

On top of the microchipped balls, climate-controlled hitting bays, food and drink services, and the in-depth feedback on individuals’ golf games that Topgolf provides users, the location is enticing for prospective customers, too. Situated near Tanger Outlet Drive and International Boulevard, the venue sits right in the heart of the North Charleston retail scene, making it an excellent choice for some after-work enjoyment for avid golfers in the area.

The latest expansion for a rapidly growing company

Even better for the local community, the benefits of the new Topgolf location extend well beyond entertainment. More than three hundred new jobs will be created in the area, giving the local economy yet another boost on the heels of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking of the pandemic: although it has slowed down a large sum of business ventures, Topgolf wasn’t one of them. On the contrary, Topgolf has been one of the few jetways back to normalcy amidst the pandemic. The company recently opened the doors to its 70th location in the world. To boot, throughout this spring, Topgolf has traveled the country, making temporary stops at some of the nation’s largest college football stadiums, including Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at the University of Florida and Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium at the University of Oklahoma, and will be coming to the University of Georgia later this month.

So while the new venue is still about a year away from opening for business, if its track record is any indication, Topgolf will soon become a staple of the North Charleston entertainment scene. See you there!
