  1. Listen to and follow the directions of your state and local authorities.
  2. Have a hurricane plan in place.
  3. Build an emergency kit.
  4. Know your evacuation route & zone.
  5. Secure your property, remove light/loose items around your house, remove weak/low hanging branches.

  2. Secure your home.
  3. Turn off utilities if instructed to do so.
  4. Turn the refrigerator thermostat as low as possible & keep the doors closed.
  5. Ensure you have a supply of water for sanitary purposes.
  6. Keep food safe.

AFTER THE STORM 

  1. Listen to and follow the directions of your state and local authorities.
  2. Limit phone calls to save battery power and reduce the load on communication networks.
  3. Assess property damage and contact your insurance company.
  4. Stay off the roads until told it is safe to travel.
  5. Do not touch downed power lines.
  6. Avoid areas of standing water.
